The Accidential Entrepreneur?
Keep seeing great profiles of women starting up businesses out of necessity — laid off from corporate jobs, dealing with re-tooling their skills in the new recession economy, or just finally saying yes to their inner entrepreneur because there are no other options.
I find it super inspiring to hear their stories and learn what they are doing to get by in this economy. One thing we can all agree on — it is an entirely new playing field in this new economy and I love how creative women are getting in reinventing themselves into highly successful businesswomen — whether they meant to or not!
Since I am a huge fan of ice cream, the story of Natasha Case and Freya Estreller who couldn’t find jobs in architecture and started Coolhaus, an amazing ice cream truck business really appealed to me. I love a good ice cream story.
Then there is the front page article on the Times website about accidental entrepreneurs, the majority of whom in this article are women. (Hilariously, they titled the article Plan B which is also the name of a women’s contraceptive — I wonder if that’s a coincidence?!).
Anyhoo, I love hearing about the creativity, inventiveness and flexibiity, not to mention profits these women are generating.
