Women Small Business Owners More Optimistic, Earn More Than Men

According to a recent survey, women small business owners are more optimistic about the future than men. That’s good news — we own 2.6 million companies in the country (34 percent of which are small businesses). When you think about it, we’ve got the power to make a pretty big impact. While women owned ventures are usually smaller in size than those owned by men, they’re more profitable. Annual average profits are said to be $2.4 million compared to $1.5 million by men. Strangely, according to the study we’re not as fixated on money as our male counterparts. Could this be a factor in why we earn more?

Other findings:

— Women owners are more environmentally conscious, with 57 percent saying their company respects green initiatives compared to 49 percent men.

— Equal number male and female owners feel affected by the economy, but 61 percent of women expect their companies to grow significantly versus 57 percent of men.

— 66 percent of women business owners think entrepreneurship is better than working for someone else. Just 62 percent of men polled expressed this.
