Survey of Wikipedia Users Points to Mostly Male Contributors
The Wall Street Journal reported today about a study of Wikipedia users that suggests just 13% of the sites contributors are women. Of the roughly 53,000 respondents who contribute to the site, 7,000 said they were female. The average age of women was 24, and 31% read but do not edit or write entries. The rest of the data shifts to general insight about the online encyclepedia, but it’s an interesting snapshot of the site’s audience and users that’s worth a look.
