Farewell to Nancy Talbot
In 1947, Nancy Talbot co-founded a women’s clothing store with her husband, then played a major role in its growth to become a catalog empire and retail chain. She has been said to be the inspiration for the women’s apparel it carried and the driving force behind the company, which she and her husband inherited from his father in Boston. She has been known for her talent in working with color - even the bright red doors that later became the store’s signature style was her design. Within a few short years, Talbots grew into its second location and was becoming a name among stylish suburban women. Today, it’s said to have more than 590 stores in the U.S. and Canada.
Nancy grew up in Chicago and worked for the Red Cross during World War II, where she met her husband. In 1973, the duo sold the company for $6 million. She stayed on as Vice President until 1983, growing the company to 30 stores and 10 million catalog subscribers. Farewell to an obviously incredible female business mind and fashionista. Total Power Girl. — Patricia
